Show SOLONS BATTLE FORPM FUNDS Cooperation of All Western State I'liambors of Commerce Asked Ask-ed by Salt Lake Body. Senator Reed Smoot and Congressman Con-gressman Don B. Colton have announced to the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce that they will fight the proposal of some members of congress to reduce appropriations for the national park service. Communications from the two Utah members of the congressional delegation were received in response to protests from Utahns on the proposed reduced re-duced appropriations. Senator Smoot, in a telegram to the Utah body, said: "I shall firmly oppose any attempts at-tempts to decrease national park appropriations. I realize the importance im-portance of national parks to the state of Utah, and to the tourists tour-ists who visit them. "Every consideration possible should be show; the cattle and sheep men by the park service, and their rights and privileges should always be safeguarded. "I am preparing legislation to eliminate the payment of entrance en-trance fees to national parks which in my opinion has had a bad psychological effect on tourists tour-ists who travel great distances to visit parks, the upkeep of which they themselves maintain through taxation. I shall do all in my power to see that no decrease de-crease in park appropriations is made." Park appropriations at best, the senator said, are but a drop in the bucket. . Congressman Colton's communication com-munication advised that he had conferred with Director Horace M. Albright of the park service and members of the appropriations appropria-tions committee. "I am using and will continue to use every means possible to prevent any substantial cut in appropriations," the congressman congress-man stated. "I realize the vital importance of this work in Utah." Communications were sent from the Salt Lake chamber to the following civic organizations: St. George, Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah, Cedar City, Price, Cheyenne, Idaho State chamber of commerce, San Francisco, Spokane, Denver, Ta-coma, Ta-coma, Seattle, Portland, Oak land, Boise, Pocatolin Falls. 6110 li. f(j The communication w organization follows- f "It has been called t tention that an effort ' T made to dispense with 'S k materially curtail the 1 ation heretofore USe(J Jl maintenance and improve, 1 1 national parks. mies 2 ' , ern congressional repros J, use their influence to ! this, it will materia t tourist travel into the well as definitely eiimi operation of the real ment payrolls of the Weif0tf "Can we depend um calling to the attention !
