Show FOREST SERVICE PLANS RESORT ft PiNEVALLEY Will Extend Campground Facilities and Work Toward To-ward a 500-Car Daily Capacity Ca-pacity Summer Playground The United States forest service ser-vice is making elaborate plans for improvements and extensions exten-sions of camp ground facilities in Pine Valley, according to Forest For-est Ranger Ben Swapp. A considerable con-siderable amount of this work was done last year, roads were built, grounds and sanitary conditions con-ditions improved, but this was only a start on the program of the government, according to Mr. Swapp. Ten thousand dollars has been asked for the improvement of the road from Pine Valley to the Enterprise highway, and $3000 from the town of Pine Valley up to the camp ground in the canyon. Whether or not this amount will be available this season is problematical, but without a doubt it will be forthcoming forth-coming within a few years. However, How-ever, every cent that can be secured se-cured this year will be used on this road. The campground which was established in the canyon only . recently, and which has been extended and improved at every v opportunity, will be gradually-increased gradually-increased until it covers a distance dis-tance of over three miles along the creek, reaching to the pres-(Continued pres-(Continued on page 4) PINE VALLEY (Continued from page 1) ent Scout camp. Summer homes will be provided for and private camping sites are also in the plans of the forest service. A goal of 500 cars a day capacity has been set and this will be gradually worked to. ' Pine Valley, with half the advertising ad-vertising other sections are receiving re-ceiving would become the most popular summer resort in the state. From the public canip-j canip-j ground it is but a few miles to I the summit of the mountain, j over ten thousand feet eleva- tion, where a view may be had for hundreds of miles in every direction. It has been suggested that a trip be arranged by the forest service and the American Legion, Le-gion, giving members of the organization or-ganization who will he here for uie convention in August an opportunity op-portunity of seeing this scenery. Cars would take those who wish-ed wish-ed to go to the Blake and Gub-Ier Gub-Ier ranch where horses would be available for the climb over the mountain. From that point it is about three miles, over a good trail ,to the summit, then seven miles down to the town of Pine Valley where the party would be met with machines for ' the trip back to St. George. On , the return a wonderful view j could be obtained of Snow can- , yon. Legionnaires will come here from all parts of the state and . this would undoubtedly be one of the best advertising features that could be arranged. |
