Show GAR RUNS INTO WASH PASSENGERSINJURED The passenger service car driven by Chester Whitehead with five passengers pas-sengers capsized into a 12-foot wash on the new road while en route to Cedar City Wednesday, some of the passengers being very severely bruised bruis-ed and shaken up but believed not to be more severely injured. The car had as passengers Mrs. Ella Seegmiller, who was going to Provo to visit her daughter, all members mem-bers of the board of county commissioners, commis-sioners, H. T. Atkin, James Judd and F. J. Bowler, and A. B. Christensen who was returning from a business trip to this section. All returned to this city except Chairman Atkin and James Judd of the Co. Com. who took advantage of the first opportunity that offered to "continue on to Salt. Lake, on county business. They were both cut about the head but not so badly bruised as the others. Mrs. Seegmiller was not so badly bruised as some of the others. A. B. Christensen Chris-tensen is said to be the most severely severe-ly hurt of the lot, Bishop F. J. Bowler Bowl-er not quite so bad and Chester Whitehead the third. The editor saw Bp. Bowler this morning. He is badly bruised about the fact and body with minor cuts in places. His nose appears to be broken, but he complains most of his back, immediately below the middle of his neck and thinks the spine is injured somewhat; his left thigh conies in next as the most painiul. He says they were going along, not very fast, just on the other side of the rise on the new road above Belle-vue, Belle-vue, probably about four miles north of Bellevle when on making a turn they saw the ground in front was cracked on one of the culverts;- the brakes were apjdied in an endeavor to stop the car to investigate but on account of the car being on the down grade it did not respond quickly so the driver turned a little to the felt to avoid the bad place when the cat-crashed cat-crashed through the posts and slid to the bottom of what proved to bo a big washout, turning over on its side at the bottom. The passengers extricated ex-tricated themselves quickly as possible, pos-sible, water and mud at once starting start-ing to fill the car. Bp. Bowler's suitcase is under the car in the wash and Mrs. Seegmiller lost nil her money. A car came up just after the accident and took some of the passengers pas-sengers back to Pinttira. The washout was estimated at 10 feet deep and 30 feet across by the mail driver, Ross Barton. It: is a wonder more serious damage did not result. Sympathy is felt, for Chester Whitehead who has- just bought out the passenger service. |
