Show MRS. JED GATES PASSES Mrs. Jed. Gates died at her home in this city last Friday morning at 6:30 o'clock. Elizabeth Luella An-drus An-drus Gates was born at Grafton December Dec-ember 6, 1863, a daughter of James and Laura Gibson Andrus; was married mar-ried May 20, 1891, to Jed M. Gates in the St. George temple. Of this union there are surviving three daughters, Mrs. J. A. Mitchell, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Ben Bringhurst, Salt Lake City, and Miss Grace Gates, at present going to school at Provo. Miss Grace was seriously ill at the same time as her mother, .consequently .conse-quently could not be here for the funeral; the others were here. Six grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Gates is spoken very highly of by those who knew her. She did splendid work for the Red Cress during' dur-ing' the World War and continued to work for that association while there was a branch active here. She also s-as a worker in the Relief Society. Funeral Services Funeral services were held in the Stake tabernacle last Sunday afternoon, after-noon, conducted by Bishop W. W. McArthur.' Musical numbers were "Softly Beams The Sacred Dawning" by the choir, a request number, "There Will Be One Vacant Chair," by a male quartet, a vocal solo by Dilworth Snow, "O Lord, Dear Lord," a vocal duet by Alta Holt and Ruth Allen, "My Faith In Thee;" vocal solo by Elvis B. Terry, Mother Sang This Hymn to Me," and "O My Father" Fath-er" by the choir. Opening prayer was by Bishop Karl N. Snow; closing prayer by Bishop Frank G. Miles. Elder D. H. Morris was pleased at opportunity to pay his respects to this sister; had been children togeth er and grew up together, were real old friends. The respect in which she was held was shown by the large number here. Sister Gates came of good pioneer stock, her grandfather being Milo Andrus and her father James Andrus; the Gates' were descended des-cended from Jacob Gates, all valuable in the Church since the days of Nau-voo. Nau-voo. Sister Gates labored among the sick as a Relief Society sister. Referred Re-ferred to man being given his free agency by God. and asked what preparation prep-aration we are all making for the life beyond. We must observe the laws of God to obtain eternal glory. Sympathized with the bereaved family fam-ily and prayed God's blessings upon them. Elder Brighatu Jarvis. Sr., told of ! the great heritage left by the parents of this dear good woman. Had known Iro. Jacob Gates when a boy in England, he used to come to his (Bro. Jarvis') home. Knew Bro. Jed Gates from the time he was a little hoy. The Gates family lived in peace and unity. Sister Gates was a hoiiie woman and Bro. Gates used to stay much at home enjoying her companionship. compan-ionship. Frayed the Lord to comfort the family. Sister Mabel Jarvis read a tribute cf respect. Elder George W. Worthen told of the good spirit in the Gates home ami the last time he was there.
