Alton Hiatt of Enterprise. Ray C. Coleman of Enterprise. The expense of the selective service in Washington county that is, the net cost of operation was $577.44. The board members made no charge for their services; $191 was paid employees; $363 for physical examinations; ex-aminations; $10 4 for miscellaneous miscellan-eous expense. There was a salvage sal-vage by sale of property amounting amount-ing to $81.65. The registration of June 5, 1917, was 543; of June and August, 1918, 74; of September 12, 1918, 633; a total of 1250, Of these 210 were accepted, ac-cepted, the total number being inducted was 217, of which seven were rejected. The county of Washington arid the city of St. George presented 321 medals to the 321 soldiers, sailors and marines and Red Cross nurses who were in the service frorn the county. Eleven of these medals bear gold tars for the eleven who made the supreme su-preme sacrifice. The presentation was made on "Soldiers' day" in St. George, December 30, 1919. The medal is of bronze and gold, and on the face bears the seal of the state and above It the words "Washington county, 1918-1919." The reverse side bears the words: "Presented to (soldier's name) by the people of Washington county, Utah, in grateful recognition recog-nition of patriotic services in the Wiorld War." President Edward H. Snow on the occasion of presentation delivered de-livered an address; commander of the Utah department of t'ie American Legion the oration, while the presentation of the medals was by Joseph S. Snow. Parents of Daniel Lester Keate have an engraved copy on velvet of the memorial erected by France to American soldiers who gave their lives that the freedom of the world might . live, signed by the President of France, Raymond Ray-mond Poincare. On the copy appears ap-pears the words: "A la Memoire de Lester Keate." |
