Show BUNKERV1LLE, NEV. The Virgin Valley High school band returned from the State and Intermountain contest at Price, Utah last 'Sunday with high honors. They were royally treated and enjoyed the trip immensely. The Town's people were out on the streets to meet them. They entered nine events and received nine placings. They received a great many favorable comments, an especially interesting inter-esting one was given by Harold Bachman of Chicago, Illinois, who was the judge of the band contests. Mir. Bauchman said, "It's been a long time since I received a thrill as when listening listen-ing to the little Virgin Valley band." The ratings were as follows: The band received an "A" rating in Class C. The boys' glee received a "B" in Class C. The solo contests were "open," the schools were not classified according to population. The solo contests were as follows: Ben Abbott received an "A" rating in violin, Len Leavitt an "A" rating in saxophone, Brent Abbott a "B" rating in baritone horn, Hafen Leavitt a "B" rating in the tuba, Ivan Hunt a "B" rating in bass solo (vocal.) The band received a "B" rating in marching and maneuvering. The drum major, Hermese Abbott, a "C" In the drum major contest. con-test. Many commented on little Ben Abbott, only twelve years of age playing against high school (senior) students and proving better than any of them. Mr. Bauchman also said, "Any band that receives an "A" rating from me can consider it a distinct dis-tinct honor because I pick polished polish-ed and finished bands in this rating. Another fire alarm was given Monday night when theKohler gasoline gas-oline electric plant adjoining Roy Waite's store caught on fire. The Kohler was flooded with gasoline and when the engine started it back-fired and shot a big blaze instantly. Water was poured on but to no avail. Finally Fin-ally quilts were used to smother it and water poured over them. The Kphler was completely destroyed de-stroyed but the store and additional ad-ditional rooms were saved. |
