Co-operation with the State Finli and Game department and with local lo-cal bodies Interested in the promotion pro-motion ot lish culture Is the motto of the United States Bureau of Fisheries, western- division with offices on the University of Utah campus. The bureau not only has jurisdiction jur-isdiction over the two Utah stations, sta-tions, Springville and Bear Lake, but also over 2 5 other stations throughout the intermountain west and the Pacific coast. This number includes 13 stations in Washington, Oregon, and California Calif-ornia devoted to the advancement of the commercial fishing of salmon. The Springville plant, adjoining adjoin-ing the State Fish Hatchery, hat an annual output of two million fingerling trout, rainbow, brook black-spotted, and Loch Leman. These fish are planted in Utah streams and therefore reduce considerably the expense on the part of the state in keeping its streams stocked. The new Bear Lake station, operating this year for the first time, is conceived to build up Bear Lake as both a fisherman's and huntsman's paradise. para-dise. In exchange for office space at the university and for scientific scien-tific apparatus, the bureau lends its facilities to the university. At present the bureau staff is giving a special course in ich-thology ich-thology and fish culture for the benefit of advanced students in the field. |
