Show 'Pirates of Penzance' to be presented at high school by Rae Dawn Olbert UHS student The public has a chance to see an operetta, "The Pirates of Penzance," which will be presented Feb. 25, 26, 27 and March 1 in the Uintah High School auditorium. "The Pirates of Penzance" was, and still is, a smash Broadway hit featuring such stars as Rex Smith, Linda Ronstadt, Andy Gibb and Pam Dawber. This operetta is a comedy full of hilarious characters and the ridiculous situations they get themselves into. "The Pirates of Penance," sponsored by the Thespian Club at the high school as their service project, has as its muscial director, Dale Bodily, who was the Thespian club president last year, and Claire Spencer as the stage director direc-tor and this year's club advisor. If you liked "The Sound of Music," you'll love "The Pirates of Penzance." Most of the actors from "The Sound of Music" are back in new roles. Doug Shaw, the Captain in "The Sound of Music" is now Frederic, the young private who falls in love with Mabel, portrayed by Misty Mills. Also back are Donny Sawyer, formerly Max, now the Major-General, and Greg Robbins, formerly Rolf, now the Pirate King. Marrianne Kay, who is portraying Ruth, Frederic's nursemaid, is excited about having one of the leads. "I love being the center of attention ! " she said. Garth Openshaw, a newcomer, has taken over the part of the Police Sergeant. Heidi LeBeau, Maria in the "Sound of Music," is now Kate in "The Pirates of Penzance." And rounding out the leads are Jacky Hardy, playing Edith; Julene Johnson, playing Isabel; . and Brent Rhoades, playing Samuel. The curtain will go up at 7:30 on Feb. 25, 26, 27 and March 1. |
