Special guest from the Utah National Parks Council Boy Scouts of America was Angus Belliston, Executive Vice Commissioner. He showed a film entitled en-titled "Scouting a Better Life" which pointed out that the Utah National Parks Council, of which Uintah is a District, is the largest council geographically in the nation and yet it provides Scouting for less cost per boy than any other council. It also has the highest ratio of Eagles in the nation. One of every six boys in the council Scouting program reaches the rank of Eagle. Ryan Mott, son of Dennis and Linda Mott, received a new Cub Scout uniform from Scouter Belliston as the 30,000 Scout to register in the Council. In 1981 the Council set a goal to register 30,000 boys with the prize of a new uniform for the boy who reached that number. Since registration, Ryan has already advanced to the rank of Wolf in Cub Scout Pack 236 where he is working on his "Faith in God" award. His Den Leader is Marsha Thacker. Ryan is the oldest of four children and is a third grader at Discovery Elementary. District Cub Scout of the year, Matt Davies, was presented a trophy at the banquet. Matt is the son of Dennis and Gail Davies and is from Pack 243 where he holds the rank of Wolf and is working on his Bear rank. He says he thinks he was selected Cub Scout of the Year because he "was doing really good and didn't fight at Den meeting." Matt was one of five cubs representing their dens who were interviewed in-terviewed by the Cub Scout Commissioners Com-missioners for the award. He received a beautiful trophy inscribed with Uintah District National Youth Representative 1982, of which he is justly proud. Matt will enter regional competition and if he is a regional winner, will travel to Washington D C. and be able to meet the President of the United States. Seven Second Miler awards were presented to Jean Pope, Jim Hendricks, Hen-dricks, Kay Hendricks, Larry Rhodes, Anita Nokes, Karl Wright and Paul Johnson. Bryant Brady, District Chairman, |
