Show Wholesale index goes down WASHINGTON For the first time in six years the wholesale index went down instead of up, with declining gasoline prices leading the way. The report, from the government last Friday, meant wholesale price inflation disappeared during February. The White House hailed the report and spokesman Larry Speakes, said, "We've cut inflation in half." Murray Weidenbaum, chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, said that along with other recent re-cent price reports the February figure shows there is a pervasive slowdown in 'the rate of inflation. |
