Show Winter preparation taking place at Flaming Gorge As the cool autumn winds begin to blow, another season winds to an end at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. After filling most campgrounds during Labor Day weekend, families have returned home, where children are back in school. Quiet now is the forest, and frost has already appeared on a few mornings. With seasonal visitation droppingoff. and prior to freezing nights, that cause ice damage to water lines, tentative closing dates of campground loops have been set on the following schedule: Arch Dam Group Site, Sept. 10; Skull Creek, Mustang Ridge and Firehole Campgrounds. Sept. 16; Greens Lake Campground. Sept. 17; Red Canyon and Canyon Rim Campground. Sept. 18: Dripping Springs, Greendale and all boat Campgrounds, Sept. 21; Firefighter's Memorial Campground, Sept. 22; Cedar Springs Campground, Sept. 23; Deer Run Campground, Sept. 24; Antelope Flat Campground. Sept. 25: Lucerne and Buckboard Campgrounds. Cam-pgrounds. Sept. 30; Carmel Campground, Cam-pground, Oct. 28. Even after the campgrounds are officially closed for the season, cam ping is still permitted in the back country south or west of Highway No. 44, or in parking lots as was allowed during previous winters. The Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center will remain open through September from 10 to 4 on weekdays, and 10 to 5:30 on weekends, while the Red Canyon Visitor Center will remain open from 10 to 4 on weekends only through September. |
