Water flows in the Green River, below the dam. are ranging between 4.000 and 36,000 cubic feet per second. Low flows generally occur from late evening (10 p.m.) to early morning (9 or 10 a.m.) with higher flows during the daytime. Flows are also generally lower on weekend days than during . weekdays due to reduced power demands from business and industry over the weekend. The reservoir surface sur-face is now at 6.020 feet above sea level (20 feet below maximum pool). Fishing on the Green River has been good but is slowing somewhat. Fishing success on the reservoir has been moderate. Visitor Centers are open daily from 10a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The self-guided tour of the dam is open daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The award winning movie, "Flaming Gorge: A Story Written in Water", shows every 30 minutes at the Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center. Don't miss Red Canyon Visitor Center, just three miles off of Utah Highway 44 in the Red Canyon area. The center features plant, animal, history and other displays plus a fantastic fan-tastic view of the reservoir some 1.360 feet below. Many wildflowers are in bloom from 6.000 to 7,000 feet. Cactus blooms at these elevations are getting ready to open. Area Ranger, Bob Meinrod, says, "Children who are interested may earn a prize by picking up litter. They should receive permission from their parents and then contact a visitor center attendant at-tendant who will explain the program." |
