Vernal City Council approved a .,e budget last week.iut.ccor-to week.iut.ccor-to acting City Manager, Kenneth sett, the budget is "very, very, ten- .e." le tentative budget is not a balanc-t'jdget balanc-t'jdget and in some areas has little smng because of the settlement of annexation suit on east Highway 40, sett said. The settlement of the suit is 60 to 70 percent of the taxes held tourt from the disputed annexation is to the city coffer which is upwards 600,000 . This revenue wasn't an-' ifaled by the budget. The council will meet Wednesday night in a -work session to add the revenue to the budget and make needed cuts and additions to the budget, Bassett said. Items which are included in the tentative ten-tative budget include a 9 percent increase in-crease in salaries which was approved by the council last May. 2.5 percent of the increases will be used for employee benefits. An expensive item in the budget is a $138,000 communications system for the police, public works and fire depart ment. With the new system', the city can " take 24 hour calls for water or sewer problems, Bassett said. Bassett said he hoped the budget would emphasize the repair and replacement of streets in the city. The tentative budget doesn't include as assistant manager position and eliminates one person from the finance department. It will allow two more police officers but public works will remain the same. The official city budget will be approved ap-proved in public meeting before July. |
