Show Xi Alpha Xi studies Africa Members of Xi Alpha Xi sororitv chapter met February 18 in the home of service chairman, Jeanie Orr. Fourteen members present repeated the opening ritual, as president Carolyn Pollard opened the meeting for business. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and committee reports and progress reviewed by committee chairmen. Appreciation, was expressed to Barbara Barton for her representation of the chapter at the Valentine Ball. Members presented Barbara with a silver crown pin in remembrance of this honor. City council representative, Pat Searle, opened discussion for plans of the upcoming Sorority Founders Day celebration. Enthusiasm was high as members expressed ideas. The business session adjourned at 8:30 p.m. and the program chairman presented member Jeanie Orr, who enlightened the chapter with ideas and facts of Africa. Through research and an interview with a former resident of Africa, Jeanie informed members with first hand information of the native customs. The population of 391 million is very friendly and family oriented. The crime rate is low and music is a very vital part of their life, she stated. Jeanie concluded with members feeling much more appreciative of our African neighbors. |
