Show Utah Gas discusses lower deposit fees with officials Utah Gas Service's required deposit was expected to be the subject of a ; discussion between Community Develop-I Develop-I ment Director Dixie Barker and Ed Jones, '. of Utah Gas Service, in Salt Lake City Aug. 24. According to Mrs. Barker, she was contacted by Jones earlier and asked ; what she felt would be a fair deposit fee. ; She advised him that $40 to $60 would ' probably be a reasonable deposit. The company has been assessing a $125 ; deposit for new hookups. ; Although this deposit money is held ; in a special account by the company and '. returned to the customer, with interest, when service is discontinued, the high ; level of the fee has been greatly objected ; to locally. Interests here, including ; Chamber of Commerce, City Council and County Commission, requested a special hearing before the Public Service Commission. There was some delay in acknowledgement acknow-ledgement of this request, but the hearing was finally set for Sept. 14 here in Moab. Mrs. Barker indicated that in addition to the lower deposit, she intended to discuss no deposit for customers with good credit ratings. This allowance is spelled out specifically in the PSC ruling on Utah Gas Service, however it has not been the policy of the company to hook up any customer without the $125 deposit. She said a special meeting of the Economic Development Committee will be held Aug. 29 to discuss Utah Gas Service's deposit policies and the upcoming hearing. |
