Show Poor Schedules, Poor Boardings Representatives from Continental Trailways met with Chamber of Commerce members Tuesday to discuss dis-cuss some of the problems of scheduling in the Moab area. At this time only two buses pass through Moab each day, one southbound at 2:36 a.m. and one northbound north-bound at 4:08 a.m. The company officials stated that population size decs not warrant a different schedule. At this time both buses arc scheduled to connect with other routes leaving from cities in Texas and Salt Lake City. Poor boardings were also cited as a reason for the unfortunate and unworkable schedule. For the first five months of this year boardings have been only 1.5 per day, and with arrivals in the middle of the night, and no promotion whatsoever, that might be expected. Woikable schedules that people know about produce-boardings. produce-boardings. This has been pointed out in' the past by Frontier Airlines and we feel it could be the case with air travel, or bus travel. Scheduling which requires the traveler to arise in the middle of the night to make a six hour trip, as in the case to Salt Lake City, is more than a little discouraging. This schedule has been in effect for more than 20 years and we feel that it is time for review. If it is indeed not feasible that Moab . could support a better schedule in the winter, why not a better one for the summer months at least, when tourist traffic could make it profitable for the line? Travelers to a strange town would be reluctant, to say the least, to arrive there in the middle of the night not knowing the locations of motels or other facilities. It seemed to us that the Continental officials came here with their minds already made up about the schedule and that they were not willing to listen to any suggestions that residents might have had which would prove workable and create better feelings and better bmrdinns for the company. We hope they reconsider and surest that some changes be made, or at least that the schedule be examined and possible changes made. |
