Show State Parks are Gaining Visitation in This Area A roundup of visitation figures in state parks shows an increase for the month of February, according to Ranger Gordon Gor-don W. Topham. Visitation records for Newspaper Rock State Historical Monument show an increase from 190 visitors in 1974 to 215 for February this year, representing an increase in-crease of 23 per cent for the month and 132 per cent for the year. Goosenecks State Reserve Re-serve also shows a sizeable size-able increase in visitation, visita-tion, he reported, from 92 for February in 1974 to 116 visits that month this year, a 26 per cent increase. The records also show a 46 per cent increase for the year. Ranger Topham noted that the increased visitation visita-tion is probably influenced influenc-ed by two major factors, firstly "people trying to enjoy their vacation before be-fore the price of gasoline is increased and secondly people traveling to this area of Utah earlier than usual due to the mild winter, win-ter, making earlier, safe and pleasant travel possible." Snowmobiling on the Blue Mountain remains quite active with an estimated esti-mated 107 machines leaving lea-ving the Dalton Springs area during February. Tophams said this makes the total for the year in that area 434 machines. He reminds owners that Off Highway Vehicle registration for 1974 expired ex-pired Feb. 28 and "therefore "there-fore if you have a recreational recre-ational motor bike, all-terrain all-terrain vehicle, jeep, dune tuggy, etc., which is not registered with the State Motor Vehicle Division Divi-sion and safety inspected for highway use, you must register and license it through the Division of Parks & Recreation. Registration forms are available at the County Assessor's Office. Tills registration must be completed before vehicles vehi-cles may be operated, or offenders Will be guilty of a misdeamor under the Utah Recreational Veht-cle Veht-cle Act of 1971. |
