Alton Parmenter, James Phillips Win Top Toastmaster Awards The Moab T0astmast-er's T0astmast-er's Club hosted the annual an-nual Area 5 Speech Contest Con-test held at Jo's Cafe March 8, with top awards going to Alton Parmenter and James Phillips. Mr. Parmenter was awarded the coveted best speaker's trophy, however how-ever Bob Sayer, Grand Junction, and Clay Bru-ner, Bru-ner, Montrose, gave him considerable competition. competi-tion. Mr. Phillips received the most applause, electronically elec-tronically measured, for his efforts as jokester. He was one of 5 compete ing Toastmasters who amused the group during dinner. The Moab club provided provid-ed an official greeter, Lloyd "ilton; the Toast- master of the evening, James Phillips; joke-master, joke-master, Bill Green; and in charge of registration and monies were Emanuel Eman-uel ThompsonandRodney Dalton. While only a few Toast-masters Toast-masters reported for the afternoon educational session, many serious ideas were discussed and some new ideas were put forth by Don Pedrey-ra, Pedrey-ra, District 26 Aminis-trative Aminis-trative Lieutenant Governor, Gov-ernor, Denver, who represented re-presented the district officers of-ficers both afternoon and . evening. Lincoln Jones of the Sleeping Giant Toast-masters, Toast-masters, Steamboat Springs, Area 6 Governor, Gover-nor, came to participate in the evening and gave his Colorado Centennial-Bicentennial Centennial-Bicentennial speech as pacemaker speaker for the contest. |
