Show School Lunch Week set in Utah Utah School Lunch week will be held October 8-14, according to H.H. Winawer, School Food Service Specialist for the Office of the Utah State Board of Education. This year's emphasis is on eating right and physical well-being. School Lunch Week's five year theme is ' 'Eat to Learn... Learn to Eat," and was designed to focus attention on the importance import-ance and to increase the awareness of the benefits of good nutrition to students, parents, and the general public. In a Declaration setting October 8-14 as. Utah School Lunch Week, Gov-oraor Gov-oraor Scott M. Matheson said, "I encourage all residents to become aware and concerned about their children's and their own nutrition habits in hope of achieving a more healthful citizenry for today and the future." Winawer said that although al-though Utah School Lunch Week is celebrated for the entire week of October 8-14, 1978, Wednesday, October 11, 1978, will highlight the celebration. The Universal Menu that will be served in every school throughout the State and Nation on that day is: Oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes and country gravy, carrots and celery sticks, orange wedges, angle biscuits and honey butter, raisin oatmeal cookie, and milk. Since this year's emphasis em-phasis is on physical well-being, coaches, physical education and health teachers are being encouraged to support nutrition awareness and to participate in Utah School Lunch Week. Winawer pointed out that proper diet is one of the few proven influences that improves a child's school performance. Most everyone will agree that a well-nourished student performs better than a poorly nourished one. He said Utah School Lunch Week is just one way of establishing the necessity of good nutritional habits if children are to grow up healthy and strong. |
