C City making plains to upgrade water system ltud Stocks, new City Adniini-ilriilorKocordor Adniini-ilriilorKocordor for the City of Moid), outlined plans to upgrade the City's water Myslctn to help alleviate, shortages of water in the future, at the regular weekly luncheon of tho Chuinber of Commerce Tuesday. Stocks explained that a largo portion of tho problem is tho result of tho existing distribution system. He stated that, using sources in a sequential pattern, tho City could obtain five million gallons of water per day, but that there could bo mime problems in getting that much water through tho lG-inch supply lino. Ho suid that an additional older pipeline was now being used, which would ullow a greater flow of water into the system. Stocks went on to say that the City would require an estimated four million gallons of wuter per day next summer. He said that if sequential pumping of wells is used, tho water should be available, lie stated that constant pumping of sources situated close together lowered the water tuble while sequential pumping actually produces a greater amount of water. Stocks stated that part of the problem is that Moab's water system is totully manual, thus reducing efficiency in controlling the flow. He said that improvements improve-ments are being made to muke the system more automatic. Moab City has facilities to store only two million gallons of water in two storage tanks. During hot weather, this reserve can be used in as little as 12 hours. Stocks said that he did not expect the City to experience such a critical water shortage as occurred this summer in the future, due to changes in the system. He said that the current water restriction program would continue until mid-November, in compliance with a temporary permit allowing the City to pump water from the Corbin Well. He also said that a joint agreement may be worked out with the Spanish Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District to benefit residents in both Spanish Valley and Moab. |
