Tlatis Tla-tis discussed the problems of n drug oriented society and stated that harsh penalties pen-alties would be dealt by him for pushers of these drugs. Following Tlatis was Judge Fdward Sheyn, incumbent in-cumbent District Judge, who stated that he felt that it is in the interest of good frovernment to have coreer officials in the judiciary. He stated that this career status pave judges a chance to pain knowledge, experience, and maturity. He pledged to continue strict law enforcement. enfor-cement. State Representative Ken Siiliman of Green River, incumbent Republican. Republi-can. State Representative spoke of his experience in frovernment including 5 years as a County Commissioner. Commis-sioner. 4 years as a City Councilman and his work in the past session of the Legislature and he requested request-ed the support in re-electing him to that office. Opposing Siiliman is Tex McClatchy who was un-able un-able to be present at the meeting since he is emplov-ed emplov-ed in California at this time. Representing him and expressing his regrets at not being present, was Dan llolyoak. llolyoak then spoke in his own behalf as challenger challeng-er for the position of four year County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket, llolyoak indicated that, hn is interested in the financing finan-cing of the County and putting the money we have to work. He also mentioned men-tioned that Grand County should keep control of the nir service it now has and not allow this to slip away. Work to keep exemptions now allowed for veterans and work to gain some revenues from public lands were some of the campaign cam-paign promises cf Republican Repub-lican incumbent Fred li. Reyeler, who is currently soring as 4 year County Commissioner. Reveler pledged to represent his county to the best of his ability. Two-Year Commissioner Democratic challenger for the position of 2-year County Commissioner Mar. vin Romerville indicated indi-cated his desire to build better cooperation between City and County officials and between the Countioi themselves. Somerville's opponent. Mars Pope then stated that he continued to work on changing existing laws to allow the Counties to operate oper-ate on a cash basis and mentioned that there had been no real problems of cooperation between the agencies. The race for Sheriff then was considered by those present. First speaker speak-er was challenging Demo, crat Melvin Dalton who stressed the need for po-lice po-lice education and told ot his success in slowing the drug problem in Grand County. Incumbent Republican W. H. Bowman then stated stat-ed that the crime rate hat? decreased in Grand County by about 30 per cent due- ing the past three! year of his offiee and he thank-ed thank-ed all residents for theii support in the past. County Kecordcr Experience in related fields was part of the platform plat-form of Norma Stocks, Republican seeking tho post of County Recorder Mrs. Stocks listed 13 years of related experience am1 promised to keep the Re (order's office up to date and effective as possible. School Hoard School Hoard candidate next voiced their opinions with Lloyd llolyoak stating stat-ing his desire to obtain, cooperation between the school board, administration, administra-tion, and teachers as wel1 ns promoting a drug edu cation program and organ . i.ation of an effectivn I'TA. .Melvin Grey listed the need for additional voci tional education and indi cated that he would do aU he could to help in this program. Milton W alston pointed out the need to work closely with the students stu-dents to help under-achiev-ers gain the education they need. Incumbent Marjorie Tomsic concluded the program pro-gram by telling of some of the) programs which had been instigated during her term in office including the removal of the school debt, remodeling at the schools and revisions in cu rriculum. |
