"Let's knock off the rn. mors," the Mayor said. "I mean all those vicious, m ' slead i n g. wh is peri t; ir stories that are going around at (his time. Most of them are so far out they are totally ridiculous," he stated. The Mayor stated that he is concerned because be-cause the rumors involve him in connection with a current political race, that for Sheriff, which "I have tried to stay quiet about." The Mayor stated that he did not enourage or get Melvin Dalton, City police chief to run for Sheriff. "In fact I tried to discourage him." thc Mayor May-or said. Rumors have it. that the Mayor is behind the filing of Mr. Dalton for the post, Mr. Bunco stated. "Mel Dalton has been premised nothing about combining the City Police Force and the Sheriff's Department, if he is elec. ted," Mayor Bunco said. In a further attempt to discredit thc rumors that lie says have been circulating, circulat-ing, the Mayor said: "I am not interested in running run-ning the Sheriff regardless regard-less of who is elected. I am not interested in running Grand County. If I was I would run for Sheriff or County Commissioner." In conclusion, the Mayor stated: "Why don't you rumor people shut up and let this election be conducted con-ducted ' on the nualifica-tions nualifica-tions and capabilities of the persons involved. I'm sure it will be on a lot higher level of campaigning campaign-ing than the present false statements that are circulating." |
