Show Sheriff Cites Crime Decrease In Bid for Re-election to Office Sheriff W. II. Bowman this week announced, in making his platform statement, state-ment, that crime in Grand County has decreased during dur-ing the past three years while he has been Sheriff. In making this statement, state-ment, Bowman listed figures fig-ures which showed a nationwide na-tionwide increase of 13 per cent in all major crimes crim-es during the past three years. These crimes include in-clude such things as auto theft, larceny, burglary, assault, robbery, rape and homicide. Grand County, stated Sheriff Bowman, has had a decrease of 29.5 per cent in this type of crime over the past three years. Bowman also pointed out that the national average av-erage in the past three years in solving major crimes which led to an arrest has been 33 per cent. In Grand County GO per cent of major crimes were solved and arrests made, said Bowman. "There have been 137 major crimes in the past three years, with 113 arrests ar-rests made," he stated. In listing his activities during the past year Bowman Bow-man stated that he had investigated in-vestigated 01 auto accidents, acci-dents, served 750 sets of papers in civil actions, served 85 juvenile papers and cleared 95 criminal warrants. Bowman was also al-so responsible for collection collec-tion of $4,000 in bad checks. Last year 301 adults were incarcerated in the Grand County jail and files were made on all of these persons. 162 juveniles juven-iles were also held in de. tention and records made, stated the Sheriff. In concluding his statement, state-ment, Sheriff Bowman said that he wished to thank all those people who had supported him during the past four years and he requested re-quested support in the coming election and pledged pledg-ed to continue his work to reduce crime in Moab and Grand County. |
