Show jVlcnticello Beets Devils; Region Title Divided By Danny Price One week ago things looked look-ed pretty bright for the Moab High School cagers as far as their Southern Division Divi-sion title chances went, but now, seven days later, that bright spot turned a little gray. The Red Devils fell on the short end of an 82-51 score to Monticello last week and dropped, once again, into a three-way tie for the Division Divi-sion lead. The loss, coupled with East Carbon's victory over Notre Dame, produced the situation which finds Moab, Monticello and East Carbon with identical 5-2 records. And to make Uiings even grayer, Moab faces a tough San Juan club Friday night, while Monticello and East Carbon are expected to notch victories over Notre Dame and Green River, the fifth and sixth place teams i in the league. MOAB ART GUILD The Moab Art Guild met at their studio on N. Main Tuesday night of last week. Mrs. Julia Contor showed her work which consisted of ink and pencil drawings and casein paintings. She specialized spec-ialized in living things- an-animals, an-animals, birds and flowers, and first became interested while making sketches for the National Parks where her husband has been stationed. sta-tioned. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent, after which there was a short business meeting and discussion dis-cussion of the upcoming yearly exhibit. San Juan, 4-3 in league play, may play the role of the division spoiler during the next few weeks, and they have the horses to do just that. Top Scorer In fact, San Juan not only on-ly has the top scorer in the southern division but in Region Re-gion Six as well. Dave Kim-merle Kim-merle leads all statistics with 161 points in seven league outings for an outstanding out-standing 23.0 average. Last week against Green River, Kimmerle netted 35 points in San Juan's 80-64 victory. And to add to Moab's woes, San Juan also has the number eleven scorer in Region Re-gion Six play. Brent Jones has hit for 105 points for a respectable 15.0 average. 19-10 Lead In last week's game against ag-ainst Monticello the Red Devils De-vils fell behind from the beginning be-ginning and never could recover. re-cover. At the end of the first quarter Monticello led 19-10 and by halftime had increased increas-ed the margin to 39-17. Monticello turned the game into a riot in the third period per-iod as hey outscored the Red Devils, 27-7. Steve Young and' Sieve Spring led the Monticello assault as Young tallied 25 points, while Spring pumped pump-ed in 19. Moab's Nate Knight topped top-ped the Red Devil scoring with 14 points, while Bill Curfman added 13.
