Show Vietnam Camp Earned for Major Schmidt WHITE CANDS MISSILE RANGE, N. M., Feb. 14 Word was received here this week that a monument in Vietnam honors a former White Sands Army officer who was killed in action there nine months ago. Camp Schmidt, a logistical logist-ical supply base near Pleiku has been named by soldiers who served with him for the the late Major Richard H. Schmidt, former commander com-mander of the WSMR Green River Test Complex in Utah. Major Schmidt left here for overseas duty in June 1965. His wife and six children child-ren remained on post. , Killed in Ambush . Last May 17 with only 49 days to serve on tour, he was amlbushed on a muddy road between the hamlet of Ohu My and the costal complex com-plex at Qui Nhon.
