Show There is a bright prospect now that a ship subsidy sub-sidy bill will pass at this term of Congress., We hope that may be true. We do not care for it much for the Asiatic trade, because that is a long way off. and the proper way to handle that is the way adopted by Jim Hill of the Great Northern, to build ships so big that the cost of running them will be but an incident, but for the South American trad. and for the European trade, it seems to us. if our Government is wise it will. fix it so that any man or any company who can build "a line of small ships will be able to begin to pick up the trade which ought to be ours, and stop the tremendous drain of money from our country which goes every year to foreign ship owners in payment of passage and freight |
