Show SCHOOL IN NEED CANT RAISE LAPGE AMOUNTS CHICAGO, Feb. A. President A. W. Harris of Northwestern university last night in commenting on the donation of John D. Rockefeller to the general education edu-cation board for the purpose of promoting pro-moting the cause of education through-oat through-oat the country, found one serious objection ob-jection to the system of the board in handing ont the money. "The colleges that need the monev the most cannot afford to have it, because be-cause of the conditions which must be complied with to get it," said President Presi-dent Harris. "For intsanee, Beloit was offered 1200,000 by the board as one-third one-third of an endowment, on condition that the college would raise the two-thirds two-thirds remaining. $400,000. This Beloit found impossible, and consequently could obtain only $50,000 of the amount. The college that can raise two-thirds of such aa endowment is not the eollego that needs tha money most." |
