Show ' Citizens of Salt Lake City wQ be called vpon within the next thirty days . ; to Tote a 1250,000 bond Issue for better . Tymmstiont : in the pnbllo schools. Tor years the city has boon far behind - la accommodatlo&s for school children. The f acuities hare not kept abreast of the Increasing; school population. Is order to arrange for the bond election, elec-tion, a meeting of the -city school board will be held Tuesday evening at 8 - o 'dock. At this meeting the board will listen to the report of the Law committee, commit-tee, which has drawn up the call for the election. The law requires that at least ten days' notice be given before a bond election can be held, roar Buildings Needed. The board members say it is imperative impera-tive that at leaet four new buildings be erected aa soon as possible. Last year the school population increased more than 1500, and. this year there will be a greater increase. In the vioinitv of the Wasatch school, in the northeastern part of the city, it is necessary that a new building of from eighteen to twenty-four rooms be erected. That aeetion is Increasing in population so rapidly that the Wasatch and Lowell schools are greatly crowded. The Longf eUow and Bryant schools will soon be filled to capacity. In the southeastern pVrt of the city the Emerson aad Hamilton schools are now caring for more pupils than they have eomfortable room for. The Grant and Sumner schools are also crowded. To alleviate the situation it is necessary that a new school building be built south of these schools. I Another building should be built to relieve congestion ia the Hamilton and Emeraoa schools. This building should be large. It is also proposed that an addition of ten or twelve rooms be added add-ed to the Franklin school, on the West 8ide. A new building at that place would relieve the present congested condition con-dition at the Biverside, Washington and Union schools. Although two sew buildings have been added to the school system his year, there is still a great shortage of school accommodations. |
