Show Frank P.I. Orem Dies From Heart Attack On Stairs to Office Prominent Business Man Was Active in Civic Affairs , Frank M. Orem, prominent Salt Lake City businessman and civic leader, died Thursday of a lieart attack as he approached his office.. He was 65. Mr. Orem, who had been 111 the past few days, was climbing the stairs to his office in the Inter-urban Inter-urban depot building at 9:20 a. m. when he was stricken. Long associated with the business busi-ness and civic development of Utah. Mr. Orem had devoted much of his time and energies -to children's chil-dren's activities. . He was a director of the Salt Lake Kiwanis club, serving his second sec-ond consecutive term as chairman of the club's boys and girls' work committee. He was .instrumental in founding The Telegram-Klwanls first aid classes for boys and f Iris, held each summer in the Salt Lake City playgrounds. Born September 26, 1874, on a farm in Ray county,. Missouri, Mr. Orem came to Salt Lake City In 18D0. With his father, Albert J. Orem, and a brother, Walter C. Orem, he built the Salt Lake Utah railroad soon after making his home here. He had been actively ac-tively associated with the railroad since, serving as special assistant to the vice president 'and general manager. He was also secretary-treasurer of the A. J. Orem company and had been associated with other business enterprises. Active in Masonic work, he served as grand master of Argenta lodge No. 3, F. and A. M., In 1924, and was a member of the Utah chapter. Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, and El Kalah. temple. Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. In 1931 he served aa president of the Family Service society and had since served aa a director of the group. FRANK M. OREM Attack proves f atal Mr. Orem was Instrumental In the placing of miniature black and white flags, symbolic of accidents and safety, to be used at the city recreation department playgrounds. play-grounds. Presentation of the flags to the city was made by Mr. Orem in his capacity as chairman of the Kiwanis club first aid committee. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Orla Orem of Palo Alto, Cal.; a son, Hallis Orem of Lodl, Cal.; a daughter, Mrs, Robert H. Dahl of San-Francisco; two brothers. Dean and Walter C Orem. both of Los Angeles, and a sister, Miss Mary Orem of Los Gatos, Cal. Funeral arrangements, to be made through the Evans and Early mortuary, 574 East First South street, are pending arrival of members mem-bers of the family. |
