Show Si It ADnears That Somebody Just Doesn't Care for Parking Meters i r 1 Policemen are very patient persons, but 1 they became a little irked Thursday about 1 this parking meter business at Main street I and Broadway. J Seemi that someone doesn't like parjc- I ing meters, and, instead of running for mayor on. an "anti" platform, takes the practical viewpoint and simply puts a meter out of operation. So policemen "held sack" at Main street and Broadway. ("Holding sack" means that an officer sticks around a given place in the hope the gentleman whom he would like to nab will show up.) ' " Police were nice about this thing when it first developed. Some time back a parking park-ing meter was removed from its base on Broadway near Main street and taken away. The company which sells meters to the city replaced the thefted device. But all was not well. The person (or persons) who dislikes (dislike) the meters got back on the job. Police found that the day after reinstallation, the standard was bent so that the new meter almost touched the sidewalk, causing no end of Inconvenience to motorists. The meter was straightened back to an upright position. So what happened? t You're right The thing was bent again.. Police went into huddle and came out with a startling deduction: . "Someone does not like parking meters." So, on that theory, the officers were waiting, just waiting. '. It appears unlikely that the person who obviously does not like parking meters will visit this particular meter again. He seems to have registered definitely his attitude. |
