Show ROOSEVELT DOUBTS ECONOMY MOVES WASHINGTON, March 21 UP) President Roosevelt said today he could not Indorse measures for cutting governmental costs unless industry offers guarantees to put the nation's unemployed back to work. . Mr. Roosevelt expressed doubt that any governmental economy which required the scrapping of relief for the unemployed, public works, social security for the aged, and slum clearance would obtain popular support He devoted most of his Tuesday press conference to a discussion of demands for economy, ending with the assertion that his statement "was quite extemporaneous, but I think I have aaid a mouthful. |
