Show What Readers Think Editor of The Telegram: I've been wondering why all driven are not like a woman with whom I have had the pleasure of riding recently. When she is driving her mind is on driving and to her nothing else is pf the slightest importance. Her attitude toward those in her car leaves no doubt in their minds as to her prefer-ance prefer-ance for little or no conversation. conversa-tion. Everyone who rides with her feels perfect confidence In her judgment and what a relief that is! It is indeed especially soothing sooth-ing to the jagged nerves of one who has had the experience of sitting helplessly while a driver, who doesn't even know traffic rules, makes every effort to "show off." This charming little lady who should be given a medal for safe driving, is delightfully unaware of her efficiency she considers it a sacred duty. I had noticed that each time she slid in behind the wheel of ber car she glanced at her watch and sat perfectly quiet while everyone waited to be off. This puzzled me greatly and I finally became so very curious that I asked her why she alwaya waited one minute before ahe atarted, whether her destination was but a few blocks or a hun- dred miles away. "Well, you see," she began, "I usually have from one to five persons in my car and I am fully aware that they are placing their lives in my care; pedestrians, persons per-sons in cars that I meet and ' pass on the streets and highways trust me not to injure or kill them. And I should hata it awfully," aw-fully," she continued with a shudder, shud-der, "if I should carelessly or thoughtlessly break that trust and be guilty of a crime for which I might have to be my own Judge throughout the remainder of my life. Therefore, I always take just one minute to humbly ask divine guidance and protection. It helps me greatly, and I find that after my silent prayer, I am mora con-scious con-scious of my tremendous responsibility respon-sibility in the preservation of human hu-man life." I hope that someone may persuade per-suade her to print her little one-minute one-minute prayer. I should be very happy to go up and down the streets, in garages and everywhere that cars might be found, pasting a copy to each instrument panel that drivers might be reminded to take one minute from their haste to prevent the possibility of a lifetime life-time of regrets.
