Friday Fri-day had driven an automobile 160 miles to get his son, more seriously serious-ly burned to a hospital. This story of fortitude waa unfolded un-folded at the Salt Lake General hospital where Robert Wantland, 17, lay in "fair" condition, his fees, hands, arms and chest covered with second and third degree burns. Father and son were seared when a gasoline lamp exploded Thursdsy in a eabin at the Moon lake reclamation project, where the elder Wantland ia employed by a contractor. "The lamp wasn't working right and I had been trying to fix it," Mr. Wantland said. "I walked out of the door of our cabin with it and just as I did, Robert approached ap-proached from the outside. "Suddenly the lamp exploded and burning gasoline flew all over Robert and on my hands and arms. "Ws both got first aid at the dam and then decided to get Robert to a hospital just as soon as possible." His hands and arms swsthed heavily in bandages, Mr. Wsnt-land Wsnt-land started driving at 1:30 p. m. Robert, bundled In blankets, rode in the back seat. At 1:90 a. m. they arrived at the hospital. hos-pital. After treatment, Mr. Wantland was discharged from the hospital and went to stay with a friend, Carl Hammond, sag C street, so he could be within call of the hospital. |
