S. - ' i ' Nearly 150 Utahns Thursday received re-ceived their checks from the federal fed-eral government as- tha first of monthly payments under the federal fed-eral old age and survivors' insurance insur-ance system. The social security benefits were mailed from Washington, D. C in time to reach claimants Thursday, according to Lee R. Cain, assistant manager of the Salt Lake City office. of-fice. . Of the 23,029 persons In the nation na-tion eligible for the payments, 150 are Utahns, most of whom reside in Salt Lake City, Mr. Cain said. Of the national total, 14,000 have been approved for monthly payments, pay-ments, the others receiving their money In a lump sum. Most of the Utahns, he sad, will receive monthly payments. Mr. Cain urged all persons over 65 years of age who have worked since the social security system was inaugurated In 1937 to file application for their benefits, if they have not' already don so. |
