Show ECLIPSE TO GIVE MOON POPULAR FALL COLOR . Among the new fall colon decreed by Madame Fashion la copperish brown and the moon will fall right into line Thusrday evening, when it will don that hue for a short time. For at 7:19 p.m. the earth'! shadow will completely hide ita usually bright light and a "total eclipse will occur, according to Dr. Junius J. Hayes, assistant professor of astronomy, University of Utah. When the moon first peeks over the eastern mountains it will be partly covered by the earth's shadow, Dr. Hayes said. Therefore the people on the west side of the city probably prob-ably will see more of the beginning of the show. All residents resi-dents of Salt Lake City will be able to see the eclipse, however. how-ever. At 6:04 p.m. the moon will enter the shadow. At 7:19 p.m. the eclipse will be total and at 8:33 it will end. The moon will be completely clear again at 9:45 p.m. Thia heavenly show will be visible only if the clouds do not obstruct the view, Dr. Hayes said. "So if the weatherman weather-man will sweep the clouds away the show will be on," he said. Eclipses of the moon occur on an average 'of twice a year and eclipses of the sun three times a year. Dr. Hayea said. However, there have been aa many as seven moon eclipses in one year, he added. Thursday's eclipse will be the second this year, the other having occurred in the spring. An eclipse of the moon has no effect on weather conditions condi-tions or temperatures, Dr. Hayes said. |
