Queuille quit because h opposed demand for a general wage boost made by the Socialists, who were on of the main parties in his coalition coali-tion cabinet that had held together to-gether for a year and 28 days longest of any postwar French government. Communist and non-Communist unions hsve demanded wage boosts to offset rising prices expected from devsluation of the franc. It waa the fifth time since the creation of the postwar Fourth French republic that Auriol haa accepted a premier's resignation. As political activity began to boll, labor also began to maneuver. The Catholic Labor Union federation fed-eration (CFTC) Issued an appeal to Communist and Soclaliat-led federations to join in a common front Together, the CFTC aaid, the unions could present the new government with a united demand |
