Show TEACHERS DISCUSS THE PHASES OF SCHOOL LIFE Interesting Department Meetings Occupied tbc Peda-' Peda-' gogucs' Time Wednesday Afternoon. The afternoon session of the Teachers' Teach-ers' Institute Wednesday was given up to department meetings, there being five scheduled. The meetings of the primary and grammar teachers were consolidated on account of the absence of Miss Sarah Louise Arnold, who was to have taken charge of the primary meeting. ' The two sections met In Barratt hall, where Miss Etta Powers, principal of the Lincoln school, spofta on. "School Gardens." Miss Power discussed her subject from all points of view and made a strong plea for the beautifying of school grounds. . A. S. Martin, principal of the Grant school, discussed "Agriculture as an Educational Possibility." J. E. Mac-Knight, Mac-Knight, principal of the training school, lead the discussion on the twtf subjects. Mrs. Nellie Druce Pugsley sang several selections. Mrs. Clesson S. Kinney, president of the State Federation of Women's Clubs, delivered an address on the work done by the clubs In Utah in bettering the educational system of the State. B. W. Ashton .was made chairman and E. 8. Sheets, secretary of the grammar section, sec-tion, and Mis's Rose Vimont, chairman and Miss Vilate Elliott secretary of the primary section. Prof. William Stewart of the U. of U.. presided over the parents' section. Dr. E. G. Gowans of the University read a paper on "The Place of Physical Education Edu-cation In the School Curriculum.- Prof. Stewart then led a discussion, on "The Importance of Closer Relationship Between Be-tween Parents and Teachers." Mrs. W. R. Hutchinson was made chairman of the section for the year, and Mrs. Walter Wal-ter Lewis secretary. The high school and college section listened to an interesting paper on "Government and Discipline In High Schools." by Principal George A. Eaton of the Salt Lake High school. Prof. G. A. Eaton was elected chairman and Mr. Greer secretary of the section. Miss Emily Rosburg read an interesting interest-ing paper on "Games" before the kindergarten kin-dergarten section, and Miss Lenore Morris sang a pretty group of kindergarten kinder-garten songs. Miss Mary C. May delivered de-livered a lecture on "Necessary Preparation Prep-aration for Kindergarten Teachers." The kindergartners elected Miss Sally G. Scholes and Miss Vera Lane as officers. offi-cers. FRIDAY'S PROGRAMME. The programme for Friday follows: Barratt Hall, 10 a. m.
