Show EDMUNDS TO TAKE ' PLACE OF TAYLER WASHINGTON, D. C. Jan. 6.-The appointment ap-pointment of Robert W. Tayler to be Judge of the United States court for ths Northern District of Ohio, was not announced an-nounced today, but it Is understood It will be tomorrow, as It has practically been decided upon at the White House. In view of this much speculation is indulged in-dulged in as to who will continue the case against Apostle Smoot. Tr. Tayler has thus far conducted the case with signal ability. He slso conducted the case against Brigham H. Roberts, polyg-amlat, polyg-amlat, in the House several years ago. Mr. Tayler will continue to represent the protestants should he be appointed Federal Fed-eral Judge until the time comes for hlro to qualify, when he will step down and out. There appears to be a desire to push the case against Mrs. Chadwick, who haa defrauded de-frauded so many banks and. whose trial will be had before the United States court at Cleveland. Should Mr. Tayler be appointed it would probably necessitate neces-sitate his qualifying at an early date. In that event, former Secretary of the Treasury. John G. Carlisle, who is one of the counsel for the protestants, who hss been watching the case closely and has all along intended to make an argument before the Senate Committee, will step In snd take up the case. It is also said that former Senator George F. Edmunds, the author of the Edmunds law, Is also likely to be called should Mr. Tayler 'hove tn retire to assume a position on the bench. |
