Show ATTACK ON DRINK BILL Bamberger Measure Apt V to Have Lively time In Senate. ,The bill providing for treatment and cure of habitual drunkards at county expense. Introduced by Senator Bamberger, Bam-berger, Is going to have a hard time In the Senate, according to the reception it met yesterday. For a little while. It seemed as if It would be killed I through a motion by Senator Johnson, to strike out the enacting clause, but Senator Bamberger made an earnest, eloquent plea for his measure and further fur-ther consideration was made a special order Monday at 3 o'clock. As originally drawn, the bill con-i con-i tained a provision that the institution to which the drunkards are sent must have a record of 70 per cent of Its cases cured. A number of the Senators Sen-ators thought this was discriminating in favor of a certain institution in Salt Lake and to avoid this the provision was stricken out and the bill made to read that the drunkard Is to be sent to "some institution within the State of Utah for the cure of drunkards, to be named by the court and at the expense ex-pense of said county."
