Show VAN DEVANTER SURE OF CIRCUIT JUDGESHIP WASHINGTON. Jan. 30. The Washington Wash-ington Star yesterday said: "President Roosevelt has decided to nominate Willis Wil-lis Van Devanter of Cheyenne, Wyo., as a Circuit Judge of the Eighth c'r-cuit. c'r-cuit. The opportunity comes by the act of Congress giving an additional Judge to this circuit. The Eighth circuit cir-cuit comprises the Stafes of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri. Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming. North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and the Territories of New Mexico, Oklahoma and Indian Territory.. "The three Judges of the circuit now are Henry C. Oswell. Walter H. Sanborn San-born and Amos M. Thayer, and the work of the circuit is too hard for these three. There are many candidates candi-dates for the Judgeship, but Mr. Van Devanter. who is Assistant 'Attorney-' General of the Interior department, is slated for the place, and will get it. "Senator Warren called at the White house this morning to talk with the President about the new place. Besides Be-sides Mr. Von Devanter there are a large numlW of candidates from the States making up the circuit. "Mr. Van Devanter became Assistant Attorney-General of the Interior department de-partment under the administration cf President McKinley. and has re:r:il --i I under this administration. The Wyoming Wyo-ming Senators desired that he should be Solicitor-General of the Dermrtment of Justice, but President McKinley had promised that place to Mr. Richards, and offered the Interior department place to Mr. .Van Devanter. "The official connection of Mr. Van Devanter has' increased in every way rnd his legal skill and Information have been demonstrated in many im;ortant decisions rendered by him since he mms been in the Interior department.
