Show MEMBERS OF HOUSE WANT HIGHER PAY WASHINGTON, D. C. Dec 6. Though Speaker Cannon and other leaders are . talking about retrenchment, several members mem-bers of the House think they do not receive re-ceive enough salary, and are agitating the subject of an Increase. They suggest $J0O.0OO for the President. 430,000 for the Vtoe-Preaident and (10,000 for members of Congress. Up to this time Increases for Cabinet officers and for the Speaker of the House have not been thought of. At present they receive ISO0O a year. Just about what a Cabinet officer is expected to pay in house rent. ., The revival of the talk is not likely to result in anything more than a crop of sarcastic comment. Such sn" increase would cost the Government J2.438.0O0 per annum, about two-fifths of the cost of a battleship, or of two and ono-half dams In-the Ohio river. |
