Show IDAHO'S BIG CANAL READY THIS SUMMER George E. Hill. Jr., of RIgby, Ida., was In 'the city yesterdav making arrangements arrange-ments for the installation of a planing mill at Rlgby. He said that the atonster cabal from the south fork of the Snake river will be ready for use this summer, and irrigators on Its course will be supplied with water during thi dry season The canal, which is known as the Rigby Great Feeder, Is thirty thir-ty miles long. It Is 100 feet wide and averages aver-ages ten feet In depth. Nearly the entire volume of Snake river can be turned Into it. The main canal Is In an old- dry bed of the river. A masonry headgate is at the head of the canal, and a project Is on foot to Jam the river so the waters may be more easily handled. Tne ditch was built by tha farmers, and Is not owned by a syndicate. The main canal and its branches water 300,000 acres of choice-land. |
