Romney. charged with murder in the second degree 'for the killing of Harry Strong, la still on In the criminal division of the District court before Judge Hall. Ten of the special venire of twenty-five Jurors ordered by Judge Hall yesterday yes-terday were examined this forenoon. .Albert T. Angell. W. J. Dobson and Morits Bamberger were excused for cause. Walter Frank. Nephl M. Sheets. William Diamond. C. E. Bennett andHyrum Seal were passed for cause. Altogether, since the beginning of the case yesterday. morning, thirty-six talesmen have been examined; twenty-three have been passed for cause; fourteen excused on peremptory per-emptory challenge, and two excused for other reason. Albert T. Angell -was excused by the State because he aald he had always been a friend of the defendant and would favor him In his verdict. Morits Bamberger was excused. by the defense on the ground that he was biased, having formed an opinion aa to the guilt of the prisoner. W. -J.-Dobson created some comment In the court when he announced that he did not read the newspapers. He was excused by the defense when he said he did not believe In the law of self-defense. - There are sixteen peremptory challenges left between the prosecution and the defense, and It Is not likely that a Jury will be secured until these have all been exhausted. |
