While no move has yet been made by the Count's lawyera. v the attorneys for ,the Countess da Castel-lane Castel-lane evidently anticipate an attempt on his part to force a delay in the trial of the divorce case, which has been fixed for October 17, unless the creditors' attachment attach-ment case Is previously aettled. The Count is not unwilling to take every advantage pf the desire of the Countess and the Goujd family to make sacrifices to avoid further notoriety and scandal, but It is still doubtful whether the price Is not too high. v It turns out that the bills piled up by the Count's creditors are very numerous. While the exact total la not known, the amount la - authoritatively described aa 'fabulous.' - - ' In spite of the pre-nuptial settlement, j tho French law regards the marriage partnerahip as making husband'and wife equally responsible for the household expenses ex-penses and debts. The attachment proceedings, pro-ceedings, however, do not belong to thia class. They are almost entirely for money borrowed from usurers at ruinous rates and consequently they could be le-. le-. gaily resisted. |
