The mother of Marguerite Greenhalgh, the twelve-year-old girl, over - whose custody her father and mother have been contesting, filed habeas corpus proceedings proceed-ings in Judge Morse's eourt this afternoon after-noon to get possession of the girl. According to the mother's story she was married to Greenhalgh' seven years ago. She was divorced from tio and he later persuaded her to remarry him.' She left blm six months ago because' of neg-I neg-I lect and abuse, but no divorce had been secured. Recently Greenhalgh has Inherited In-herited some property, - and to keep his wife from sharing it he desired a divorce. He could not locate the mother and .hearing .hear-ing that his daughter had tbeen placed In St. Mary's school at Deer Lodge, Mont., he kidnaped the girl and brought her to this city; knowing that '""the mother would follow. The mother claims that to Induce the girl to come with him he told her that heT mother had been arrested for some crime and was In Salt Lake. In Juvenile court he brought the charge . that the mother was unfit to ears for the child, but failed to establish the charge and it is understood that the case will be dismissed. The mother says that she has worked hard to support herself and her daughter and put the girl In the Catholic school as the best place to secure refuge and an education for her, while the mother was fighting her battle with the world. To get a divorce It was necessary for the husband to have a personal summons sum-mons served on his wife, according to a decision ot the Supreme "court, and it was for this reason he resorted to the ruse to get ber here.
