Show RIVAL RAILROADS TO GRANTSVILLE The news of the intention of the Western Pacific road to build a branch line from its main line to Grantsville was followed this morning by the disclosure dis-closure of the plans of the Salt Lake road to project a branch to the same place at a still arlier date from its main line the other side of Garfield. While the Salt Lake road has never before disclosed its intentions to build into Grantsville, it has long cherished the project of tapping this remarkably rich little region so handily situatr.l for trade over the Salt Iake road. For some time plans have been in process of completion regarding this branch line, and ere long the actual work of construction will negin. Grantsville is situated in the center of a remarkably rich region, whose natural outlet is' Salt Lake City. The products of this territory are increasing rapidly each vear. It has not been the intention of the San Pedro line to let this rich prize fall to a rival road, and intelligence co'mes this morning that it is the determination of the company com-pany to reach the ground ahead of all competitors. The Salt Lake officials are confident of their ability to hold the Grantsville trade for the reason that they claim the most direct route from this region to Salt Lake. It is the intention ot the company to build from the point of the mountain the other side of Garfield Beach directlv to Grantsville. This Fives a straight line of thirty-six miles rom Salt Lake to Grantsville. The Salt Lake route goes within nine miles of Grantsville. the Western Pacific Pa-cific within five miles of the same place. Grantsville is one of the most promising prom-ising towns in the western part of the State, a fact which is keenly appreciated appre-ciated bv the rival lines. It is the center cen-ter of about 75,000 acres of rich, well-watered well-watered lands; it is the focal point of a large number of sheepmen; it is situated situ-ated near one of the most promising mineral zones in the State; salt works, mills and a tannery are some of its enterprises, en-terprises, so that the prize is rich enough to promise interesting developments develop-ments between the rival roads. |
