Show PAVOR LOWERING CANADIAN TARIFF Financiers, Regardless of Political Views, Believe in United States Reciprocity Recipro-city With Canada. CHICAGO, Nov. 12. Widespread belief be-lief in the advisability of reciprocity with Canada was expressed yesterday by Chicagoans as a result of the speech on that topic delivered befora the Merchants' Mer-chants' club Saturday night by James J. HU. Men prominent in finance and business declared, with scarcely a dissenting voice, that thev were in entire en-tire accord with Mr. Hill's position. It was pointed out that Detterment of trade relations with our northern neighbor would mean an extension of the Canadian markets to the products of the United States, and that such an expansion would probably benefit Chicago Chi-cago and the Northwest. Even men who were not in sympathy sympa-thy with the free trade ideas, expressed themselves in favor of some lowering of the- tariff wall as far as Canada was concerned. It was decided that American Ameri-can business, as a whole, bad lost through the absence of better trade relations with the Dominion. Occasion, also was taken to sound a note of warning that the establishment of improved relations should not be long delayed, for Canadians are declared de-clared to be changing to some extent from their former desire for reciprocity. |
