Appropriationa . to tho amount of $700,000 hare been made by . the two roads and construction work will begin arly in tho spring. Before the building build-ing ia completed over $1,000,000 will have been consumed in its construe-' construe-' tion. Thia is according to the plan -and estimate already made by Architect . Henry J. Schlacks of Shicago, brother of C. H. Schlacks, manager of the Bio J Grande railroad.. ! ilr Schlaeka examined the principal passenger depots throughout the country coun-try ana recently reported recommending a building similar to--the Bio Grande Bassenger depot at Grand - Junction, olon only on a vastly enlarged scale. ; This building, according ta Mr. Schlaeka and manr' prominent railway officials, is one- of the most beautiful and convenient structures of its kind in -the country. This building is of th Moorish- type of architecture, tha Oriental Ori-ental eontcmr being particularly impressive im-pressive and splendid. Tha nw Building Build-ing will follow its general outlines pn grander; and more magnificent scale, resulting' in a building -that would do credit to the" first eities of the land and wiich will add much to the beauty and attractiveness of .- tke new greater Salf Lake". " - - - The new building will be Jf vast dimensions di-mensions according to tha . plan outlined out-lined by Architect Schlacks and adopted.-It adopted.-It will completely span and elose Third South street near its junction with Fourth West. From its Mosque-like central cen-tral cupola it will extend, to the right and'to the left 'to' occupy. .TROstrof tha contiguous blocks. Upon thia space will" be. assembled, all the accessories that constitute the most modern and up-to-date depot to be . found anywhere on tho continent. r i " On the weat side of the depot will be erected a vast system of sheds for the trains. -and on the east side will be laid the tracks of the Harriman street railway system from Second Bonth to Fourth South. Theso will afford af-ford unsurpassed street ear facilities for tha handling of tha passenger traffic. traf-fic. - - - .... - . The allied road$ will use tha present site of' the Bio Grande freight and passenger depots for-their-freight depot de-pot and yards. 'With tho present Bto Grande passenger' depot cleared away the room made will afford facilities for this freight depot which the Toads may take advantage of by way of sweeping improvement aa the -occasion -arises. |
