Show NEW FOOTBALL TO BE INSTALLED CHICAGO, June .-"New footbair has arrived. The institution, which is the invention of Coach A. A. Stags; of the University of Chicago, and intended as a substitute for the old gridiron game condemned by the conference i "reform" professors last winter, will be exploited next fall In a contest between Chicago and the University of Minnesota. Minne-sota. Announcement of the game was made yesterday by Coach Stagg. The new species of football will differ from the time-honored brand In that the so-called objectionable features surrounding; sur-rounding; the game will be eliminated.. The official field rules will be observed, but the relations between the teams and the colleges concerned will be on a strictly "purity" basis, to conform with the Ideals brought out In the recent football legislation In the West. The leading features of the' "new football" will be a banquet for the opposing op-posing teams the night before tha game, at which the playeis of opposing positions posi-tions will occupy adjoining seats; absolute ab-solute avoidance of all controversies and conflicts In financial matters and eligibility questions and all around "gentlemanly spirit," Coach Stagg declares de-clares that all future games in which Chicago Is concerned probably will be played under the new rules. |
