Lake most prominent clubwomen ridicule the position taken by - -the Federation. , The opinions follow: - . - ST. PAUL; Minn!, June 7. Figures as tbject lesson are being; presented to the Rational Federation of Women' clubs to show that love In a cottage la not an idealist' idle dream.' but 1 really within with-in the reach of all. and that In living " the simple life. 25 cents a-day ,1s uffl-tient uffl-tient to aupply the want of the normal , inner man, and that a number of frill and tuck can be added to the simple existence for 60 cent a day. , The clubwomen have prepared table' to show how easy it l to buildUa house with a capital ft $100, and that it 1 no trick at alMo provide for .All the needs of the. practical young couple for $400, ' To prove all these contention the committee on household economic has thrown open the door of a model flat and invited all the delegates to the conventioa of the general federation to come and Inspect the result of their labors. Love in a cottage on 25 cent a day ia not practical. It is an Idealist's dream. So say the leading Salt. Lake clubwomen. club-women. ' Listen to. what , these happy home expert say: Mrs. J. E. Bamberger. MRS. J. E. BAMBERGER I don't want to do it myself. I suppose j it might be possible for a couple to live on 25 cents a day, but it hardly seems possible. I don't see how any one could do it. MRS. J. E. DART A couple certainly , would not live very long in Salt -. Lake City on 25 cent a day. They would not live more than a month to be happy or unhappy. I don't see how the clubwomen 1 could be so foolish as to discuss -it. . I think it is about the silliest silli-est thing I ever heard of. To . me it sounds more like a practical practi-cal joke. Mr. W. C. Druehl. MRS. WILLIAM C. DRUEHL I haven't 'any opinion to express in the matter. Anything ought to be practical if it were true love, they say. . I don't know whether you want me to tell my experiences -or not. Well, . that will be easy enough, for I have not had any. I haven't an opinion opin-ion of any kind on the subject. MRS. F. J. FABIAN I couldn't possibly possi-bly express an opinion. I don't know, I am sure, whether it is practical for a couple to live on 25 cents a day. I am inclined to think that it is not practical or - possible.. Mrs. A. L. Hoppaugh. MRS. A. L. HOPPAUGH I couldn't for a minute believe that it is practical, prac-tical, except in extremely rare cases. When living is as high as it is at the present time, and wages are as high as they are now, it sounds ridiculous for a person to be living on -25 cents a day. It might be practical in a little country town or In some . isolated district. When wages are as high as they are there is no necessity for it. There is really nothing that would require re-quire a person to live on 25 cents a day at the present time. In Chicago they have been teaching a number of young women about to get married how to live economically. They have been , giving them a course in buying and cooking and general housekeeping. house-keeping. ' It hag been demon-'. demon-'. strated that a couple can live on $10 a week, but when It comes to " 25 cents a day I cannot believe it. I would certainly like to see the way the clubwomen figure it out. I think there must have been some mistake made. It must have been $1.25 a day. I cannot believe that the women would be so foolish as to figure out that a couple could live on 25 cents a day. They would not do it themselves. Besides, there Is certainly no reason for a person per-son having to live on 25 cents a day. I don't believe anybody would do it, and especially not when fhere is an opportunity to live better. An able-bodied man does not have to live on 25 cents a day. Mrs. C. O. Plummer. MRS. CHARLES G. PLUMMER I am 1 a poor one to give advice. I don't keep my own accounts and therefore -could not say whether it Is practical or not. I can only say that I know nothing about I it. . |
